Jessica Rieble Named San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for August
SAN DIEGO - University of California San Diego women's volleyball player Jessica Rieble has been named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for August as the organization announced its selections Monday.
Rieble helped pace UC San Diego to a 3-1 record to start the team's 2018 campaign.
For the month, Rieble led the Tritons in points, kills, attack percentage, and blocks. Over the four matches, the junior middle blocker averaged 3.6 points, 2.6 kills, and 1.4 blocks per set while posting a .355 (34-12-62) attack percentage.
Rieble recorded season-highs with 20 points, 14 kills, and eight blocks at Hawai’i Hilo. At Fresno Pacific, she hit a blistering .714 with 11 kills and just one error in 14 attack attempts.
A 2017 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association performer, Rieble is the first San Diego Hall of Champions honoree from UC San Diego for the 2018-19 academic year.
Now 4-3 on the season, UC San Diego hosts its first home matches of the year this week, entertaining San Francisco State on Friday, Sept. 14, and Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Sept. 15. Both contests, slated for 7 p.m. starts, will be held in Main Gym as RIMAC Arena is in the final stages of a renovation. Admission is free.
Each month, the San Diego Hall of Champions honors as many as four professional, six amateur, and six high school athletes as Stars of the Month for their outstanding athletic accomplishments. Stars of the Month are recognized in the San Diego Union-Tribune, via the Hall of Champions' app, social media channels and website, on-field at Petco Park prior to a Padres game, and at San Diego's premier sports awards gala, Salute to the Champions. They also receive a Breitbard Star of the Month Certificate of Athletic Achievement. Top-performing Stars of the Month can also earn Star of the Year accolades. Those considered are either from San Diego or have achieved stardom for local teams.
