Tritons Earn ITA Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. - The University of California San Diego men's tennis team, as well as four of its student-athletes, were recognized Tuesday as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its academic awards for the 2016-17 season.

UC San Diego was named an ITA All-Academic Team, while Linus Grasel, Marius Ruh, Eric Tseng, and Justin Zhang earned ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is bestowed upon any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.

ITA Scholar-Athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Grasel recently graduated as a Structural Engineering major at UCSD's Sixth College. He was an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2016 as well.

Ruh spent his freshman year as an Environmental Engineering major at Revelle College.

Tseng and Zhang, both coming off their junior years, are now three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees. Tseng majors in Cognitive Science at Roosevelt College, while Zhang is a Human Biology major at Muir College. Zhang was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Second Team in 2017.

In all, 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored by the ITA.
