LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego fencing team will host the UCSD Duals on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Main Gym on campus.

The event, scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m., will feature fellow Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) South Division rivals Arizona State, Caltech and UC Irvine.

Both the UCSD men and women received votes in the CollegeFencing360.com national preseason poll, which was released on Jan. 22.

The Tritons were last in action at the Western Invitational, hosted by Caltech in Pasadena on Jan. 12. The men defeated Air Force (15-12), Caltech (24-3) and Florida (22-5) and were topped by Stanford (16-11), which is currently ranked 10th nationally. UCSD's epee contingent won its battle against the Cardinal (7-2) as Luc Ginestet posted a 10-2 record in the discipline. Peter Meckling was 5-1 in sabre while Alex Lavin came away with a 6-2 mark in foil. Lavin collected an impressive upset victory over Stanford's Turner Caldwell, the runner-up at the 2012 NCAA Fencing Championships.

On the women's side, UCSD took down Caltech (25-2) and Florida (22-5) and fell against Air Force (16-11), Northwestern (18-9) and Stanford (18-9). Northwestern is ranked seventh in the country. Alexandra Stanley racked up seven victories in sabre as the Tritons defeated Air Force in that event (6-3). Alina Marshall totaled nine wins in foil. 

Also on Saturday, UC Santa Barbara will host a meet comprised of the IFCSC North Division schools, including Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, UCLA and USC.

Following Saturday's event, UCSD will hit the road for its next three competitions, starting with the Northwestern Invitational on Feb. 2-3 in Evanston, Ill.

The Tritons have won eight consecutive IFCSC titles.
