IRVINE, Calif.- The UC San Diego men's and women's fencing teams returned to La Jolla with their eighth consecutive Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California championship Sunday, after nearly sweeping the competition.
Both the men's and women's Triton fencing sides defeated Arizona State, UC Irvine, UCLA, USC, Claremont College, and UC Santa Barbara to place first overall in their conference.
The UCSD fencers dominated their competition in five of six weapons categories in a commanding performance this weekend. The Tritons finished on top in all but the men's epee contest, where they secured a respectable second place finish. The Arizona State men's and women's teams both placed second, while USC finished third on the men's side and UCLA captured third place overall for the women.
The Tritons will next head north to Stanford, Calif. to participate in the NCAA West Regional Mar. 10-11.
