Tritons Top Cal State L.A., 70-49, to Open Conference Play

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's basketball team commenced California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday at RIMAC, handing the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. their first loss by a score of 70-49.

The Tritons improve to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play and will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-4, 0-2) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Senior guard Daisy Feder led all Tritons and shared the game-high with 21 points. Feder also had two rebounds, one assist and two steals. For the second game in a row, junior forward Erin Dautremont scored a double-double. Dautremont contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds to go along with one assist and two steals.

Tessondra Williams matched Feder's 21 points and also had six rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Though up by 12 at the half, 38-26, the Golden Eagles went into the intermission with a 7-0 run. But after the lead was trimmed to as little as eight, the Tritons regained their first-half composure and went on an 8-0 run to double their lead, 48-32, to 16.

UCSD began the game playing both quality offense and defense, beginning the game with a 15-0 run while holding the Golden Eagles scoreless for more than 5:30.

Feder scored the contest's first basket with a layup while being fouled. The Santa Monica native successfully converted the three-point play to give the Tritons a 3-0 lead 1:09 into the game.

The Golden Eagles (4-1, 1-1) will play at Cal State San Bernardino (2-2, 1-0) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
