LA MIRADA, Calif. - Anji Shakya shattered meet and school records and Jeremy Smith duplicated her first-place finish in the 500 freestyle to spur the UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams to a stellar second night Thursday at the 2013 Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference (PCSC) Championships. The four-day meet is taking place at the Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center.

Through seven of 20 events, the fourth-ranked Triton men moved their point total to 611.5, distancing themselves from Cal Baptist (451) and Fresno Pacific (390). The No. 3 UCSD women have 644 points through eight of their 20 events, comfortably ahead of closest competitor Fresno Pacific (346).

Triton swimmers went 1-2-3 in both of the 500 finals. Shakya, who posted the fastest morning prelim time (4:57.67), outdid herself in the final, winning the event for the third year running in 4:48.19, breaking her own school mark of 4:51.14 from the 2012 NCAA Championships in the process. The time also lowered the 20-year-old meet record of 4:51.06. Following Shakya were fellow co-captain Beth Dong (4:59.81) and junior transfer Erika Rodman (5:00.63).

On the men's side, Smith led the freshman duo of Howie Chang (4:30.83) and Paul Li (4:31.26) to the wall, with a third freshman, Kyle Nadler, placing sixth in 4:35.90.

Senior Adam Rice won the 200 individual medley in 1:50.24. Junior co-captain Nicholas Korth was second in the 50 free in 20.60, narrowly out-touching teammate Reid McCallum (20.63).

Korth anchored Cole Heale, McCallum and Dane Stassi to a second-place finish in the 200 free relay, timing 1:22.70 behind first-place Fresno Pacific (1:21.97).

Fourth-year senior Olivia Fountain not only won the 50 free in sprinting 23.51, she also led off the first-place 200 free relay, combining with Katherine Tse, Colleen Daley and Sierra Robbins for a time of 1:33.65. Tse was second in the 50 in 23.60.

Eva Chen was the top Triton finisher in the women's 200 IM, timing 2:07.41 for third.

In her final collegiate performance, senior Mishka Hulka, posted the highest point total among three UCSD divers in the one-meter competition, at 187.35, good enough for sixth. Junior Natalie Mouzooni joined her in finals in eighth (183.45).

The 2013 PCSC Championships continue with two sessions on Friday, Feb. 15, as preliminaries again begin at 9 a.m., with evening finals at 4:30 p.m.
