Tritons Tied for 11th After Day One at Mustang Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Following the first two rounds of play Monday, the 20th-ranked UC San Diego men's golf team is tied for 11th of 20 teams at the Mustang Intercollegiate. The tournament is being hosted by Western New Mexico University at Palm Valley Golf Club outside of Phoenix.

UCSD holds a two-round total of 592 after shooting a 294 in the opening round and a 298 in the second round on the par-72, 7,015-yard course. The Tritons are tied with Regis for 11th place.

Individually, the Tritons are currently led by Lewis Simon and Clayton Yamaguchi, who are tied for 44th place. Both players shot a 4-over par 148, with Simon going 76-72 and Yamaguchi carding a 71 and a 77. Yamaguchi was the lone Triton to fire an under-par round Monday.

Leading the field is ninth-ranked Cal State Stanislaus with a 568. The Warriors are four strokes ahead of Western New Mexico, which shot 572. Western Washington and Cameron are tied for third at 578, while No. 18 Sonoma State rounds out the top five with a 580.

Anthony Manguray of Cal State Stanislaus tops the leaderboard with a 7-under 137. He shot a 69 in the first round and followed that with a 68 in the second. WNMU's Thomas Neve and WWU's Craig Crawford are tied for second, just one stroke behind Manguray with a 138.

Also in the lineup for UCSD are Jeff Roseth (T-49th, +5 149), Daniel Yang (T-72nd, +9 153) and Jay Lim (T-77th, +10 154).

Tuesday's third and final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action via live scoring.
