Matt Herman Competes at Open Water National Championships

FORT MYERS, Fla. - UCSD's Matt Herman recently competed at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, held at the Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club in Southwest Florida.

On Sunday, Apr. 29, the Triton senior placed sixth in the 5K swim, recording a time of 58.05.227. David Heron topped the field in 57.50.920.

Two days earlier, Herman completed the 10K in 2:00:42.883, good for 14th place. Andrew Gemmell swam a winning time of 1:58:03.875.

The 2012 10K Open Water National Championships serve as the trials for the USA Swimming National Open Water Team and National Junior Open Water Team. The top six American finishers are named to the 2012-13 National Team while the top three American finishers under the age of 18 are selected to the National Junior Team.
