Release: Thursday 01/12/2012

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego's Alex Henley has been named the Division II Female Swimmer of the Week for her strong performances in two meets last week, one against Division I opponents at San Diego State, the other a home meet against Grand Canyon.

In the final home meet of her career on Jan. 7 at Canyonview Pool, the senior All-American won all three individual events she swam in and was also part of the Tritons' 400 medley relay squad that captured first place. The Thousand Oaks native topped the field in the 200 butterfly (2:05.57), the 200 backstroke (2:04.95) and the 200 IM (2:07.46), while the relay team posted a winning time of 3:53.25 against the Antelopes.

The day before at the Aztec Aquaplex, Henley took second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.11), just behind a San Diego State swimmer, and also placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:05.36). The meet also featured Division I teams Rice, TCU and Washington State.

Grand Canyon's Taylor Turner was tabbed the Division II National Swimmer of the Week on the men's side.

Henley, who was also named the Athlete of the Week, will next be in action on Jan. 14 as UCSD competes at Loyola Marymount. The meet starts at noon at the Burns Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.
