LA JOLLA, Calif. - With an electrifying crowd of almost 1,800 at RIMAC Arena, the UC San Diego women's basketball team stormed the courts against the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State and pulled away to a 78-66 victory on Friday to earn its sixth straight win.

With the triumph, UCSD improves to 14-8 overall and 12-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Tritons, who are second in the CCAA, finish their weekend home stand on Saturday against fifth-place Cal Poly Pomona (11-8, 9-6 CCAA) in a game set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Senior guard Daisy Feder matched her career-best in points with 29, including a 10-for-18 performance from the paint, to lead all scorers. She also had seven rebounds and two assists.

Also contributing big were junior forward Erin Dautremont, who had 20 points, seven rebounds, one assist and a steal, and sophomore guard Miranda Seto, who tallied 10 points, a game-high four assists and a steal.

Pacing the Lumberjacks was senior guard Lisa Petty with her 20 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Petty also had help from junior forward Kelly Kime, who had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, and freshman forward Amanda Kunst, who had 12 points, two rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal. Senior guard Caitie Richards rounded out the HSU double-digit scorers with 11 points, two rebounds and three assists.

UCSD never trailed in the game and claimed the win on the strength of its 17-for-29 (58.6%) effort from the field in the first half. For the game, the Tritons went 27-for-55 (49.1%) while the Lumberjacks shot a decent 24-for-59 (40.7%) over the 40 minutes.

Though HSU scored one more point in the see-saw battle that was the second half, clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch prevented the Lumberjacks from making any large dents in the Tritons' lead. UCSD hit half of its 18 free throws for the game in the final 6:23 of regulation. This stretch began with Dautremont's successful pair of free throws, giving UCSD all the points it needed and made the score, 67-55.

The Tritons acquired their double-digit lead in the early minutes of the first half. Over a span of more than three minutes, UCSD put together an 11-0 run. The run was capped off by Dautremont on a layup, which brought the Tritons to a commanding 20-8 lead with 11:31 left in the opening 20 minutes.

UCSD's advantage over the Lumberjacks became as large as 19, when Feder fired a jumper to extend the Tritons' lead to a score of 39-20 with 3:26 to go before the intermission.

Though the Lumberjacks proceeded to score six straight unanswered points in a run that was ended with Richards' trey at the 2:34 mark, Feder prevented the run from getting any larger by making a pair of free throws with 1:41 to spare before halftime. Feder finished the first half with an impressive 20 points.

In addition to Feder's first-half performance, the Tritons dominated the Lumberjacks in second-chance points by outscoring HSU, 8-2.

The 10th-place Lumberjacks, who drop to 9-12 overall and 5-10 in CCAA play, conclude their weekend on the road at eighth-place Cal State San Bernardino (8-11, 6-9 CCAA) in a contest slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at Coussoulis Arena on Saturday.

The attendance of 1,784 was the third-largest ever recorded at RIMAC for a women's basketball game.
