UCSD Defeats San Francisco State, 3-1
Release: Saturday 10/26/2013

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) and Sophie Rowe each had a match-high 16 kills to lead the 13th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win against San Francisco State Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.

Scores were 25-19, 16-25, 25-13 and 25-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match-up. UCSD improved to 17-3 overall and 10-3 in the conference, while SFSU, which has now lost six of its last seven, fell to 9-12 and 4-9.

It wasn't a very good night for either team on the hitting front, with UCSD finishing at .200 and SFSU swinging at just .113. However, the Tritons totaled 58 kills to the Gators' 40 and held a huge 79 to 59 advantage in digs. San Francisco State was strong at the net, out-blocking UC San Diego 13 to six.

Dahle had a match-best 17.5 points with a pair of blocks (one solo) to go along with her 16 kills. She hit .343 and added nine digs. Rowe put up a double-double performance with 16 digs added to her 16 kills.

Sara McCutchan also had a double-digit kill night, flooring 10. She hit .400 with two errors in 20 attacks. Caitlin Brenton had eight kills, 10 digs, three aces and three assists, while Heidi Sierks amassed 47 assists and 14 digs. Brittany Lombardi led all players with 27 digs.

The Gators were led offensively by Meagan Wright, who totaled 11 points on six kills and a match-high seven blocks (three solos). Melissa Horton had a team-best nine kills and Jessica Nicerio had 16 digs.

The Tritons swept the regular season series as they defeated SFSU, 3-0, in the Bay Area on Sept. 20.

The match was UCSD's annual Dig for a Cure event in support of breast cancer awareness.

UCSD remains tied with Sonoma State for second place in the CCAA. The Seawolves, ranked 14th nationally, upset No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino in four sets Saturday. It was the first conference loss for the Coyotes this season.

The Tritons host two more CCAA matches next week, entertaining Chico State on Friday, Nov. 1, and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Nov. 2. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
