Release: Sunday 12/22/2013

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Erin Dautremont scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as UC San Diego ended 2013 with a win over visiting Cal State San Bernardino 67-55 Sunday at RIMAC Arena.

UCSD improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with its second win over the Coyotes this season. CSUSB falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in CCAA play following the loss.

UCSD shot 53.7% on 22-for-41 from the floor on the afternoon, while the defense held the Coyotes to 32.3% on 21-for-65 shooting. The Tritons had two other double-digit scorers as Miranda Seto poured in 11 points and Haley Anderson tallied a career-high 10 points off the bench.

Anderson provided a spark in the first half after UCSD fell behind 7-2 in the opening minutes. The freshman guard nailed back-to-back treys to put the Tritons ahead 15-10; a lead UCSD would not surrender the rest of the game.

The Tritons closed the half strong to earn a 34-25 advantage at the break after Dautremont found Dana Webster for a layup in the closing seconds. UCSD finished the half 59.1% from the floor and scored 12 points on CSUSB turnovers. Anderson tallied eight points at the intermission to lead UCSD.

The Coyotes came out in the second half and mounted a small comeback to pull within six at 45-39 with 11:29 remaining after a jumper from Adriana Brodie. The Tritons responded with an 18-7 run in the next ten minutes to grab their largest lead of the game of 18 points with 2:34 remaining. The run was started with a Miranda Seto three and ended with a Dautremont layup, who was fouled on the play and followed with a make at the charity stripe to put UCSD up 64-46.

Each team exchanged baskets in the final two minutes as the Tritons closed out the 67-55 victory. UCSD won the rebounding battle 35-33 and outscored the Coyotes 22-10 in bench points. The only flaw on the afternoon was the 19 turnovers to CSUSB’s 11.

The Tritons received a strong contribution from Webster as she scored seven points and grabbed six boards. Stephanie Yano also finished with eight points and four assists, respectively.

The Coyotes were led by 13 points from Trinidee Trice and 10 apiece from Tayllor Gipson and Jazzmyn Davis in the loss.

The Tritons start the new year at RIMAC Arena, hosting Cal State Stanislaus on Friday, Jan. 3, and Chico State on Saturday, Jan. 4. Both games tip at 5:30 p.m.
