Matt Macedo - Head Coach

It’s been a smooth trip so far. We got in Sunday and the Dallas Airport with its five concourses was a little crazy but we made it through and the hotel in Arlington is awesome. Arlington is one city over from Mansfield, where the pool is located. It has a Six Flags Park and we drove by the new Cowboys Stadium on the way but that’s pretty much been the extent of our sightseeing.

The ISD Natatorium, which is hosting the nationals, is a very fast pool. It has a constant depth, overflow gutters to minimize turbulence and the blocks are about as high as they can be within regulation which is going to help people. The spectators are up high which provides a good vantage point and keeps the decks fairly clear.

Scott McGihon (recently retired UCSD head coach) arrived today which I think gives some added familiarity to the group in this environment. He was part of recruiting most of the upperclassmen on this team so it’s good to have him on board. Corrie (co-head coach Corrie Falcon), Michelle (diving coach Michelle Casillas) and I have been here before and the new faces on our staff, Jason Martin and five-time NCAA champion Daniel Perdew are certainly comfortable in this situation but it never hurts to have someone who has been through this 13 times, like Scott has, on the deck with you.
