Following a week layoff, the UC San Diego cross country teams will now travel to Whittier for the Bronco Preview Meet on Saturday morning.
Hosted by Cal Poly Pomona, Saturday's event will serve as a preview of the course for the 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, which will also be held at Whittier Narrows Regional Park on November 6. The 6k women's race will start at 8:00 a.m., with the men's 8k scheduled to follow at 8:45.
Saturday's competition will feature several squads from the CCAA. In addition to host Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus and Sonoma State will be competing on the women's side, while Pomona, East Bay and Stanislaus will enter runners in the men's race. Santiago Canyon will also join the five-team men's field.
After taking last weekend off, head coach Nate Garcia will be entering his full complement of available runners on both sides Saturday.
UCSD last competed on October 9 at the annual Triton Classic on campus. The Tritons finished second out of five teams in the 10k men's race, while the women took fourth in a 13-team field in their 6k run. Jesse Morrill was UCSD's top individual finisher on the men's side, placing third overall with a lifetime best time of 32.10.3, while Aaryn Kobayashi paced the Triton women with a 12th place finish at 23:37.9.
Cal Poly Pomona won both the men's and women's events two weeks ago, claiming four of the top nine finishes in the men's race and three of the top 10 times on the women's side.
