First Things First
After entering full squads in the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational last weekend, head coach Nate Garcia will now split his team between two events over the next two weeks. Up first is the 67th Annual San Diego State Aztec Invitational, scheduled for this Saturday in Balboa Park. Saturday's meet will feature two invitational competitions, with the women's 5k kicking things off at 8:30 a.m. and the men's 8k following at 9:00.

With several of his top performers resting for next weekend's Runners Soul/Erik Anderson Invitational in Spokane, Wash., Garcia will enter Samantha Groff, Elena Inouye, Anneke Kakebeen, Kaity Malloy, Jackie Sikkema and Kathryn Turner on the women's side this weekend, with a few others possibly joining that group. Competing for UCSD in the men's race will be Tanner Collins, Dustin Harris, Daniel Hauptman, Mike Kloha, Warren Liem, Jeremy Riley, Sean Upson and Zach Withall.

Keeping it Local
UCSD will be competing in the Aztec Invitational for the third time in four years when the gun goes off on Saturday. The Tritons took part in the open runs in 2010 and came away with impressive results on both sides, as the men finished first overall and the women took second. Ryan Lok (28:05.8) finished second individually to lead the men, while Kaity Malloy's (20:08.2) fifth place showing paced the women.

UCSD Stands Tall at UCI/Invite
Competing in a large field meet for the first time, the Tritons proved to be one of the better squads at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational last week. The men finished second out of 13 teams in the 8k ‘A' competition, while the women placed sixth overall in the 16-team 5k ‘A' run. The Triton men finished just a single point behind event winner Cal State San Marcos. For a complete recap of last week's race, click here.

Corliss Effect
Senior Alex Corliss put together a tremendous performance on Saturday, bouncing back from a tough outing in UCSD's season opener on Sept. 2. The Santa Barbara native was the first Triton to cross the finish line at the UCI Invite, finishing ninth in a field of 148 competitors with an 8k time of 25:31.9. Corliss, who beat out runners from several D-I schools, shaved 1:20 off of his time at the same meet in 2010. He was named the Male Athlete of the Week on Monday for his performance.

Chang Comes Through Again
After posting an individual victory in UCSD's season opener two weeks ago, sophomore Chia Chang was the Tritons' top finisher in Irvine as well on Saturday. She finished 14th out of 192 entrants with a 5k time of 18:12.1, which was a full 25 seconds faster than her time on the same course a year ago. Chang has quickly established herself as one of the top runners on the squad, leading the Tritons a total of five times over the first nine races of her career.
