LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego's Kellen Levy has been named the season's first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday by the league.
On Friday, Aug. 31, Levy placed first in UCSD's season-opening meet in La Jolla. The junior from Fresno clocked a time of 21:39.2 in the four-mile race, helping lead the Tritons (18 points) to a commanding win over Point Loma Nazarene (54 points) and Long Beach City College (68 points).
"We got a nice, strong run from Kellen today," UCSD head coach Nate Garcia said. "This is the type of race that we are learning to expect from him as he begins to assert himself in our sport."
Levy paced a field that saw UCSD place five runners in the top six and 14 in the top 15.
Marina Ghabbour of Cal State Stanislaus won the weekly honor on the women's side.
The Tritons will compete at the adidas/UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8. The races get underway at 8 a.m.
