After a weekend away from competition, the Tritons will travel to Irvine this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24, and take part in the UC Irvine Invitational. Fifteen of the top 20 teams in the CWPA Coaches Poll will be in attendance. Click here for ticket information, directions and updated scheduling. UCSD is in Bracket C along with No. 3 UCLA, No. 6 UC Irvine, and No. 14 UC Davis. UCSD and UCLA face off in game one.

The winner of UCSD-UCLA will face the victor of No. 6 UC Irvine- No. 14 UC Davis at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The host, UC Irvine is 7-4 entering the weekend tournament. The teams have not met this season, but UCI holds a 3-0 record when playing WWPA opponents this spring. The Anteaters most recently dropped a 9-6 decision to UCLA in Los Angeles, after going 3-1 at the Triton Invitational the previous weekend. UCSD is 1-27 all-time against UCI. UC Davis, currently 5-5 on the year picked up their first wins over national top 20 opponents posting victories over No. 18 Pacific and No. 20 CSU Bakersfield at the Davis Challenge. UCD went 4-0 in their home tournament. The Tritons have had evenly matched games when playing the Aggies, posting a 19-28 all-time record. UC Davis took both matches in 2012.

The Tritons drew UCLA for the first round of the UC Irvine Invitational. UCLA is currently ranked No. 3 in the CWPA Top 20 and is bringing a 13-1 overall record into the weekend. The Bruins' single loss of the season camme against No. 1 Stanford in the final game of the Stanford Invitational. UCLA is most recently coming off a pair of home victories, deafeating Cal Lutheran 18-3 followed by a 9-6 win over UC Irvine at Spieker Aquatics Center. Twelve of the Bruins' 14 contests this season have come in tournament play. UCSD has had its work cut out for itself when facing the Bruins with a 5-21 overall record when meeting up. The last time the teams met was Jan. 24, 2010 at the Michigan Invitational. UCSD held a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, but couldn't keep up with UCLA's second half speed.

The Tritons return to Canyonview Pool on March 1 to host LMU before entertaining UC Irvine on March 3. They will not play in front of a home crowd for nearly a month after that, returning on April 11 to host Long Beach. Sarah Lizotte earned KAP7 Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week on Jan. 30 after compiling 13 goals, five assists and five steals at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational. Jolene Guiliana leads the conference in assists with 14. Goalie Courtney Miller reached the top 20 leader board in every category except goals scored and is No. 3 in saves with 71. The Tritons own the majority of the top 19 steal leaders with four members listed. Sarah Lizzote is fourth in the WWPA with 20 goals.
