Four Tritons Earn Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Recognition
Release: Friday 05/29/2014
by UCSD

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Kellen Levy, Clint Rosser, Lorato Anderson and Eva Isaacs of UC San Diego were named Thursday to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country First Team for the NCAA Division II District 8, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The awards recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Levy and Rosser have now earned the distinction in two successive years, with each having then moved on to garner Capital One Academic All-America® recognition in 2013. Anderson and Isaacs are first-time choices. As first-team Academic All-District® honorees, the four Tritons all advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot. All four were track and field team captains during the recently-concluded 2014 campaign.

Of the 10 student-athletes to make the men’s first team for the NCAA Division II, Chico State had three and UCSD and Azusa Pacific two apiece. On the women’s side, Chico State again had three out of 10, with Cal State Stanislaus joining UCSD at two each. The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) took up seven of the 10 spots for both the men and women. Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Pacific West Conference programs are also included in District 8 consideration.

Levy, a senior Fresno product (Clovis West HS), is a standout in cross country and track and field. A literature/writing major with a 3.76 grade-point average, Levy defended his conference title in the 10000 meters at the 2014 CCAA Championships on his home track earlier this month. He also placed eighth in the 5000. Levy ranks fifth in Triton history in the 10000 and 10th in the 5000.

Levy was the Tritons’ top finisher at the 2013 CCAA Cross Country Championships, placing 11th as an All-CCAA performer. He is a four-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic and three-time CCAA All-Academic honoree.

Rosser, a redshirt junior pole vaulter from Westchester (Loyola HS), boasts a 3.96 GPA in environmental engineering. He missed out on a return trip to the NCAA Championships this year, his top height of 15’9.25” good enough for a provisional qualifier and second-best among Triton vaulters in 2014. Rosser was fifth at the 2014 CCAA Championships after a third-place finish in 2013. He ranks third in the event in program history.

Last spring, Rosser earned the Elite 89 award for Division II men’s outdoor track and field, given by the NCAA for the highest grade-point average among student-athletes who qualified for the NCAA Championships. He then improved 10 spots from his No. 19 seeding and finished in a tie for ninth in the pole vault, achieving a height of 16’2.75” and coming up narrowly short of a top-eight All-America position.

Rosser is a 2013 USTFCCCA All-Academic, two-time CCAA All-Academic and two-time UCSD Athletics All-Academic Team honoree.

Anderson is a senior from Fremont (American HS) who has a 3.78 GPA in literature/writing with a minor in education studies. Primarily an 800-meter runner, she placed fourth at the 2014 CCAA Championships. In her fourth year at UCSD, Anderson is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and three-time CCAA All-Academic honoree. She ranks No. 4 on the all-time Triton list in the 800. Anderson was the 2013 CCAA runner-up in the event, and placed fifth as a sophomore in 2012.

Isaacs, a senior thrower out of Lafayette (Campolindo HS), maintains a 3.75 GPA in physics. The fourth-year Triton reached the podium twice in her final collegiate competition at home during the CCAA Championships, placing second in the shot put and third in the discus. Isaacs was a 2014 USTFCCCA All-Region pick in both events. She is a two-time CCAA All-Academic and 2012 UCSD Athletics All-Academic Team honoree. Isaacs ranks No. 4 all-time at UCSD in the shot put.

Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be an important contributor athletically to be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® programs.
