Release: Monday 03/26/2012
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UC San Diego senior thrower Nick Howe was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 25, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Howe had a strong showing at the Point Loma Nazarene Collegiate Open on Saturday, winning the men's javelin with an impressive toss of 205'10". His victory came rather easily as his throw was more than 32 feet further than the second place competitor's. Howe's performance also met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the event.

A native of Aptos, Calif., Howe is the two-time defending NCAA Champion in the javelin.

Monday's award marks Howe's first CCAA Athlete of the Week award of the season and the first for any Triton in 2012. Howe was also named the Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Howe and the Tritons will be back in action this weekend at the Cal/Nevada Collegiate Championships in Claremont.
