Howe won the men's javelin, throwing a top distance of 212'4" on Saturday at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge. The mark shattered the meet record for that event, held by his older brother, Nick Howe (206'3"). In addition, Nash Howe's mark placed him at No. 2 on UCSD's all-time top 10 list for that event.

Although Nash Howe has consistently thrown well above 190' throughout the season, his personal-record throw on Saturday signified the first time in which he eclipsed the 200' mark. The Aptos native's previous career best was 199'8", which he recorded at the 17th Annual Rossi Relays in Claremont on Feb. 23 to finish second overall.

Howe is the third Triton to receive the award this season and the second student-athlete on the men's team after senior Zach Nagengast, who earned NCAA provisional qualifiers as well as respective season and personal bests for his performances in the discus (161'5", 1st) and hammer throw (181'8", 3rd) at the 17th Annual Rossi Relays. Senior Jessica Miklaski earned the honor on the women's side for her performance in the javelin (143'4", 1st) at the same meet to clinch an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

The UCSD track and field teams will be at two different meets this weekend. Some Tritons will be competing at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, which begins at 10 a.m. on Friday and runs through Saturday, while other UCSD student-athletes will travel to Eagle Rock for the Occidental Distance Carnival, starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
