CLAREMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego track and field teams made their second trip to Claremont this season on Saturday for the 27th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, during which a number of Tritons recorded personal bests at Strehle Track.

For the day, the Tritons earned thirteen top-five individual finishes, including eight for the women in five events and five for the men in four events. In addition, the women had a relay team that finished within the top five.

The only event winner for UCSD was senior All-American Jessica Miklaski in the javelin with a top distance of 134'3".

Sophomore Sabrina Pimentel sped through the competition of the women's 800-meter run en route to a second-place finish with a personal-record time of 2:10.9 to improve her NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The time ranks as the second-fastest mark in school history for that event.

Pimentel also started off with the baton in the 4x400 relay. Along with senior Chelsey Kamson, sophomore Ellexi Snover and senior Raquel Ormsby, the quartet took third overall with a time of 3:50.52. The time is a season-best mark for the Triton women and the eighth-best reading in school history.

In the 3000 steeplechase, sophomore Anneke Kakebeen was the runner-up, clocking in at a school-record time of 11:18.92. Kakebeen improved her previous personal best by more than 10 seconds (11:29.23).

UCSD had its strongest crop of individual finishes in the the 5000, where the Tritons had three among the top 10, including two in the top five. Junior Chia Chang finished second in the race with a career-best time of 17:54.94, improving her hold of the ninth-fastest time in UCSD history for that event. Freshman Carolina Guzman (18:09.65) and sophomore Madison Tanner (18:10.24) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the field, sophomore Chantia Justice and freshman Julia Wildenthaler were top-five finishers in the triple jump. Justice leaped a distance of 38'4” for third place, while Wildenthaler claimed fifth with her mark of 36'6.75”. Junior Eva Isaacs served UCSD with a fourth-place result in the shot put, tossing the metal sphere a length of 41'4.5”.

The men additionally earned their highest finish on the track from sophomore Tanner Collins, who came in second in the 5000 upon crossing the finish line in 14:47.04. Freshman Tareq Alwafai was right behind Collins in third with a personal record of 14:47.12 to enter him at No. 8 on UCSD's all-time top 10 list for that event.

Freshman Daniel Franz had an impressive performance in the 3000 steeplechase with his fifth-place showing after stopping the clock at 9:31.32.

The Triton men had a pair of third-place finishes in the field as well. Senior A.B. Shaheen launched the hammer a span of 187'0”, while freshman Sean Cook raised the bar on his personal record after clearing a height of 6'6.75” in the high jump. With his mark, Cook has a share of the ninth-highest measurement cleared by a Triton in program history.

Meanwhile, Kelly Fogarty (2008-11), Linda Rainwater (2007-10) and Stephanie LeFever (2008-11), all former UCSD standouts who are currently volunteers on the coaching staff, achieved the top marks in the 200 meters (23.62), high jump (5'8.75") and long jump (19'5.5"), respectively, as unattached competitors or for their club teams. Fogarty also crossed second in the 100 (11.72). Jacqueline Rose, herself a past Triton student-athlete (2009-12) and the older sister of current sophomore sprinter Keith Rose, was second behind Fogarty in the 200 (24.07) and fourth in the 400 (54.05).

The Tritons will next compete at the Soka Peace Invitational Friday and Saturday, Apr. 19-20. The men's and women's discus and hammer throw events will be contested at UCSD on Friday at 1 p.m. Saturday's slate of events will commence at 10:30 a.m. in Aliso Viejo.
