SAN DIEGO - The eighth-ranked UC San Diego women's crew team concluded the 38th Annual San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday with two varsity boats competing in finals.
UCSD's varsity eight earned a spot in the grand final of the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park Cup with a strong showing on Saturday and the Tritons' top crew finished fifth out of six boats on Sunday. UCSD recorded a time of 7:42.84, which was six seconds behind fourth place Central Oklahoma's time of 7:36.54.
Orange Coast College overtook UC Santa Barbara's "A" boat in the final 500 meters to place first in the race with a time of 7:20.1. UCSB finished second at 7:24.9.
UCSD's second varsity eight was competing in the petite final of the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park Cup and the Tritons finished third with time of 7:56.48. Sonoma State and UC Irvine were the top two boats with respective times of 7:26.3 and 7:39.7.
"It was a great day, making the two finals with both of our varsity eights," head coach Pattie Pinkerton said. "Both boats excelled this weekend. The hard work they have put in is paying off and it was terrific to see them execute their races so well today."
The Tritons will be back in action on Saturday, April 9th when they travel to Marina del Rey for the Loyola Marymount Duel Race.
