Humboldt State received a two-out line-drive single, just off the jumping Mya Romero’s glove, in the bottom of the 13th to complete the four-game sweep of the Tritons in the nightcap to walk-off with a 6-5 win.
The Tritons were able to force the extra frames with some two-out heroics of their own in the top of the seventh. Down 5-4 with two outs, Kirsten Willmon doubled to left field to give UCSD a chance to tie the game. Proctor followed with an RBI single up the middle on a 1-2 pitch to push the game into extra innings.
UCSD had control of the game prior to needing the late run, and led 4-3 after 6.5 innings.
HSU responded with their conference-leading 65th home run of the season from Dani Randall, a two-run shot to center field to put the ‘Jacks back ahead 5-4. It was her 14th homer of the season which ranks tied for first in the CCAA.
Each offense had multiple chances to score in the extra six innings as each team combined to leave 12 runners on base.
UCSD’s best opportunity came in 12th after two singles from Willmon and Proctor led off the inning. After an executed double steal put the runners on second and third with one out, HSU escaped the jam by recording a pop out and a strikeout.
