One of the most decorated players to come through the renowned UC San Diego women's soccer program, Kristin Jones is in her 14th season on the Triton coaching staff in 2017. She was elevated to the position of associate head coach on Aug. 28, 2015.

Having jumped straight into coaching at her alma mater in 2004 after exhausting her eligibility, Jones took over as the top assistant under her former head coach, Brian McManus, prior to the start of the 2006 campaign. She assists with all aspects of the team in addition to on-field coaching, including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, travel and camps. All told, 2017 marks the 18th season in succession of Jones' time at UCSD.

During Jones' first 13 years on McManus' staff, the Tritons posted an overall record of 193-53-31 (.753) with six California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles, 10 NCAA Division II Championship appearances, three West Region crowns and two national runner-up placements. She was part of the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II West Region Staff of the Year under the award's new format.

UCSD managed to do something in 2016 that the storied program had never done before, and that was to complete an unbeaten and untied CCAA slate at 12-0 in cruising to a first regular-season crown in three years under the new system. The Tritons added a record 10th and second consecutive CCAA Tournament banner, falling to eventual national champion Western Washington in the West Region final, 2-1 in overtime in Golden, Colo., to wind up with a 19-3 overall record. Remarkably, for the first time in program history and as the first known instance in CCAA annals, all 11 starters were recognized in some fashion with league postseason distinction. Seven of those Tritons went on to some form of All-America honors.

The 2015 season saw a welcome end to a first-ever two-year hiatus from the NCAA Championship, the Tritons turning a No. 4 seed for the CCAA Tournament into a ninth banner and subsequent automatic berth. UCSD had been picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll. The 2014 squad ran off a 5-0-1 record down the stretch, with four of those matches away from home and allowing just a single goal, to snatch a remarkable return trip to the CCAA Tournament following a lone absence from the event in 2013, out of UCSD's 17 seasons as a league member. The Tritons are record 10-time CCAA tourney champions, with Jones a part of all 10 as either a player or coach.

A gifted forward donning the No. 9 shirt in Triton blue and gold, Jones helped usher in the Division II era at UCSD as it won back-to-back national crowns in 2000 and 2001 immediately after making the move from Division III. She punctuated her freshman year by assisting on the game-winner with just 15 seconds left in regulation to edge Northern Kentucky, 2-1, in the 2000 championship game in Miami Shores, Fla. Jones followed that moment up by tallying the title-clinching goal in the 78th minute of a 2-0 victory over Christian Brothers at Triton Soccer Stadium and being named the 2001 NCAA tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player. From 2000-03, Jones' teams went 75-10-2 (.874), earning four consecutive CCAA banners and NCAA postseason berths and advancing to the national semifinals on three occasions.

Jones completed her illustrious college career with 78 matches played, 61 starts, 26 goals, eight of them game-winners, 29 assists and 81 total points. A two-time All-American, three-time NSCAA All-West Region First Team selection and three-time All-CCAA performer, she was named the 2003 CCAA Player of the Year after producing team-leading totals of 10 goals and 12 assists as a senior. Jones, also one of 13 UCSD Athletes of the Year for 2003-04, still ranks No. 6 on the program's all-time list in career assists.

With her playing background, Jones works hands-on with the Triton forwards, and has expertly mentored the incredible current strike tandem of Katie O'Laughlin and Mary Reilly to double-digit goal totals in each of the past two seasons, placing 1-2 on the league chart in both years, and 1-2 in the West Region in 2016. O'Laughlin was the 2016 Division II Conference Commissioners Association West Region Player of the Year and CCAA Offensive Player of the Year, leading the region with her 16 goals and 41 points, while Reilly was the 2015 CCAA Freshman of the Year. The duo has combined for exactly 50 goals over the 2015 and 2016 campaigns.

Alongside her duties at UCSD, Jones has long been a fixture among area club and high school soccer circles. She was named the director of coaching for La Jolla Youth Soccer League's recreational and competitive programs in 2012, and is also the girl's varsity head coach at La Jolla High School. She guided LJHS to five CIF San Diego Section Division III finals in six years from 2008-13, with a pair of titles and two subsequent CIF Southern California Regional Soccer Championships Division II runner-up showings in 2009 and 2011. Jones was chosen the 2009 CIFSDS Coach of the Year. The Vikings fell in the first round of the 2015 CIFSDS Division I playoffs, and most recently won the CIFSDS Division II crown in March of 2017.

Jones previously assisted McManus with the organization of the La Jolla Nomads Soccer Club for six years, earning a promotion to assistant director of the girl's program in 2008.

Jones earned her bachelor's degree from UCSD in human development in 2004. The San Diego native starred in her prep days at Oceanside High School.

An enthusiast of international soccer and loyal supporter of famed English club Manchester United, Jones attended the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, and was also in Lisbon, Portugal, during the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final there. She was in Canada during the group stages of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, taking in eventual champion USA's 1-0 victory over Nigeria in Vancouver.
