Andisheh Bagheri Selected Conference Commissioners Association West Region Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Release: Tuesday 08/14/2014

LA JOLLA, Calif. - With training camps set to begin Monday ahead of the 2014-15 athletic year, honors for 2013-14 continue to come in for former UC San Diego men's soccer standout Andisheh Bagheri. Bagheri was chosen Thursday as one of 16 regional winners of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

A male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be announced nationally in September, from the group of 16 regional honorees consisting of eight men and eight women.

The commissioners from each Division II region selected the regional winners. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, and possess outstanding athletic credentials.

Bagheri, a Davis native out of Davis Senior High School, gained consideration by virtue of being selected the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year in early June. He completed the 2014 spring quarter with a 3.9 cumulative grade-point average as a UCSD graduate student in biology. The 2013 All-American and Academic All-American earned his undergraduate degree in physiology and neuroscience in June of 2013.

During the fall of 2013, Bagheri guided the Tritons to their most successful season since moving up to the Division II level in 2000, tallying a team-leading 10 goals, including a league-best six game-winners as UCSD finished 14-3-5 overall.
