WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - After the start of preseason arrived
Monday with two-a-day practices, the UC San Diego men's soccer team received a
bit of added motivation a day later. In the California Collegiate Athletic
Association preseason coaches' poll released Tuesday, the Tritons are featured
at the No. 5 spot in the conference's South Division.
The league coaches selected Sonoma State and defending conference champion Cal
State Dominguez Hills as favorites to win their respective divisions in the
upcoming CCAA season. UCSD ended 2009 with a 7-9-4 overall record while going
4-9-3 in conference play. Eighteen of the team's 20 matches were decided by one
score or concluded in a draw.
The Tritons begin their 2010 campaign on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., with a non-conference
home match against Dominican. UCSD is returning seven of its 11 starters and 14
of its 23 letterwinners.
Although the squad's final roster has yet to be finalized, third-year head
coach Jon Pascale is expecting the Triton newcomers to step right in and

State L.A. and CSUDH traveling to La Jolla for the league's opening weekend
Sept. 10 and Sept. 12.
