Clutch Performance Earns Jared Kukura CCAA Player of the Week Honors

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego defender Jared Kukura was named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending October 17, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Kukura, a senior from San Diego, Calif. came through in the clutch this past weekend for the Tritons, scoring a pair of goals, including the game winner, in the squad's 3-2 overtime victory over CCAA North Division leader, Chico State. After UCSD extended the match with a last-minute goal at the end of regulation to make it 2-2, Kukura pounded home the rebound off a free-kick in the 99th minute to send CSUC on a long bus ride home.

For the weekend, Kukura totaled 188 minutes, two goals and five shots. He currently leads the Tritons in goals (3) and points (6), and is second in minutes played (1,348). He is the second Triton to be named CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week this season.

After its two wins over the top two teams in the CCAA North Division, CSUC and Cal State Stanislaus, UCSD ranks fourth in total points in the CCAA with 21. With four conference matches remaining in the regular season, the Tritons are looking to hold their spot in the conference standings, as they would be the fourth and final seed to make the CCAA postseason tournament.

UCSD returns to action next weekend, as it travels to face Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 24, respectively. Kick-off against CPP is set for 4:30 p.m. CSUSB, who is third in the CCAA with 25 points, will face UCSD at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
