SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -
The UC San Diego men's soccer team fell in a tight 1-0 match against No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Sunday afternoon in San Bernardino.
The loss makes UCSD 6-6-4 overall and 6-5-3 in CCAA competition. The Tritons dropped to fourth place in the CCAA South Division and now trail Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Dominguez hills by four points for the last seeds to the CCAA postseason tournament.
In the CCAA playoffs, the winners of the South and North Divisions, plus the next two teams with the most amount of points in either division, advance to a four-team single-elimination tournament to determine who will be granted an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships.
CSUSB leads all CCAA teams with 31 points and a 12-3-1 overall, 10-3-1-conference record.
Jose Godinez was the match's lone goal-scorer, as the forward rebounded home a goal after Julio Ayala's attempt ricocheted off the post. UCSD was out-shot by CSUSB, 9-8.
UCSD has dropped its last two matches after coming into the weekend unbeaten in its last eight.
UCSD wraps up the regular season next weekend in a home-away series with Cal State East Bay. The Tritons will face the Pioneers in Hayward on Friday Oct. at 7:00 p.m. UCSD will be back home on Halloween against CSUEB. Kick-off is Sunday, Oct. 31 at 11:30 a.m.
