KANSAS CITY, Mo. - UC San Diego senior defender Jared Kukura was named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-America Second Team, it was announced Wednesday.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men's soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. Kukura was named to the West Region First Team on November 16.

Kukura earned the 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Most Valuable Defensive Player award last month. In addition, he was a First Team All-CCAA choice. The selection marked the fourth time in Kukura's career he was named to an All-CCAA team.

The San Diego native becomes the fourth Triton in program history to earn All-America honors. The last time a UCSD player was named to an All-America squad was in 2004 when Matt Davey was selected to the second team. Davey and Jonathan Shum were placed on the All-America First Team in 2003. Bobby Saadati was a second team selection in 2000.

Kukura started all 18 of UCSD's matches and led his team with four goals, eight points, and a .250 shooting percentage. Kukura was a stalwart on a Triton backline that ranked second-best in the CCAA with a 0.89 goals against per game average and nine shutouts. The CCAA honored Kukura with its Player of the Week award on Oct. 19 in lieu of his two-goal performance in a 3-2 overtime victory over Chico State on Oct. 15. Kukura provided the game-winner.

UCSD finished the year in third place in the CCAA South Division with an 8-6-4 overall record and an 8-5-3 record in conference play. The Tritons put together an eight-match unbeaten streak midway through the season, a span in which they outscored opponents, 12-3.
