STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: The Tritons took advantage of opening conference play at home, earning two wins this past weekend to take a 3-1-0 record overall. This weekend's road games should prove to be a valid test going forward in CCAA regular season play.

SCOUTING CAL STATE LA: The Golden Eagles, defending CCAA and NCAA Division II West Region champions, surrendered three first-half goals and fell to Chico State, 3-0, Friday at University Soccer Stadium. CSULA had been waiting for its offense to get untracked and it finally broke out in the second half of a key California Collegiate Athletic Association match at Cal State Stanislaus. After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles scored three times in a seven-minute stretch and beat the Warriors, 3-0, Sunday at Warrior Stadium.

ALL TIME SERIES: The Tritons hold a winning record over Cal State LA at 11-9-2 despite splitting the 2011 season series.

WHEN WE LAST MET THE COYOTES: Cory Wolfrom fooled CSUSB keeper Tanner Olinger in the 74th minute to boost UCSD to a 1-0 win on Sept. 25, 2011 in La Jolla. After receiving a pass on a short-corner from Andisheh Bagheri, Wolfrom sent in a cross from the left side to the top of the six yard box, forcing Olinger to make a decision. Olinger let the ball bounce in the goal box, but couldn't get a hand to it as the ball hopped into the side-netting inside the far post.

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO: It has been an interesting start to the season for the Coyotes. To open CCAA play, CSUSB and Cal Poly Pomona battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. CSUSB had not allowed a goal in nearly 370 minutes, and earned its fourth tie of the season in a 0-0 double overtime contest against visiting San Francisco State. The Coyotes are now 0-0-4 overall and 0-0-2 in the CCAA and play at Cal State Dominguez Hills before hosting UCSD Sunday afternoon. This season's record marks the first time in program history a team has taken four consecutive draws in a single season.

FIRST HONOR: Senior midfielder Adam Zernik is the first member of the squad to receive an award for the 2012 season. He was named the UCSDtritons.com Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 10-16. Zernik's lone goal led UCSD to a 1-0 victory in the team's CCAA opener against San Francisco State Friday night.

UP NEXT: The Tritons extend their road trip with a second pair of away games when they travel to fellow CCAA South Division opponents Cal Poly Pomona (Sept. 21) and San Francisco State (Sept. 23).
