FAREWELL FOR A BIT
This week's contests at San Francisco State and Sonoma State mark the midpoint of a six-game road swing for UCSD. It began last week at Cal State Monterey Bay and at Cal State East Bay and will wrap up next week at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. The Tritons won't play at RIMAC Arena again until hosting Humboldt State on Friday, Feb. 8. This is the team's longest away streak since the 2007-08 season, when UCSD played eight consecutive road games, half of those coming at the CCAA Tournament and NCAA West Regional. During the 2005-06 season, the Tritons played nine straight regular season games away from La Jolla.

LISTEN UP
In addition to all home contests, UCSD's road games at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Feb. 1) and Cal State L.A. (Feb. 2) will be broadcast live by ESPN Radio 1700. You can also listen to the broadcast online at http://www.sandiego1700.com.

RIPE FROM THE STRIPE
UCSD has been dominant from the free throw line. The Tritons lead the CCAA and rank eighth nationally in free throw percentage at 76.4%. Tyler McGrath leads all league players and is 19th in the country at 88.2%. McGrath finished the 2011-12 season as the CCAA's leader in free throw percentage at 83.3%.

McSCORERS
Guards Tyler McGrath and James McCann currently rank among the CCAA's top 10 scorers. McGrath is second (16.2 points/game) and McCann is eighth (13.2 points/game). McGrath has scored 10 or more points in 12 of 13 games while McCann has posted double-digit totals in 10 of 13.

THE SIXTH CENTURY
UCSD'S win at Humboldt State on Jan. 5, its first-ever victory in Arcata, was the 600th victory in program history. Since 1965-66, the Tritons' inaugural season of play, the team has compiled a 603-629 overall mark.

CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY REWIND
After finding itself down by 12 points in the first half, UCSD rallied for a 20-0 run that led the team to a 63-58 victory at CSUMB on Jan. 18. The Tritons got 27 points out of their bench. Tyler McGrath led all players with 20 points, while James McCann followed with 16. Drew Dyer and Colin Porter each totaled eight rebounds. The Otters were paced by Brandon Ward's 18 points. Monterey Bay outshot UCSD 44.4% to 40.4%, but missed all 14 of its three-point attempts. The Tritons sunk nine long range shots, five of which came during the first-half mega run.

CAL STATE EAST BAY REWIND
Drew Dyer's career-high 30 points highlighted UCSD's 69-60 win at CSUEB on Jan. 19. Dyer was 12-for-15 overall and made all six of his three-point attempts. As a team, the Tritons buried 10 shot from behind the arc, a season-high. UCSD led 35-20 at the half and never trailed in the game. MacKenzie McCullough and Tyler McGrath each had 10 points for the Tritons, while Colin Porter finished with a game-high eight boards. James McCann dished out five assists. The Pioneers were led by Gabe Kindred, who amassed 20 points and eight rebounds. UCSD shot 49.1% from the field and held East Bay to just 39.2%.

DYER MAKER
Drew Dyer hit several team season-highs with his 30-point performance at Cal State East Bay on Jan. 19, including field goals made (12, tied with Justin Brue at CSUSB in November), field goal percentage (.800) and three-pointers made (6). The 30 points are the second-most scored by a Triton this year, just behind Tyler McGrath's 33 against Fresno Pacific back in November.

BALLIN' COLIN
With Justin Brue out due to injury, Colin Porter has gotten the starting nod in UCSD's last five games. In the Jan. 5 contest at Humboldt State, the first start of the senior's career, Porter finished with six points, equaling his all-time high. Porter has averaged 6.8 rebounds over his starting stint, which included pulling down a career-best eight boards in three of those games. In the team's last two games, Porter has led the Tritons in minutes, playing 38 at Cal State Monterey Bay and 34 at Cal State East Bay.

A LOOK AT THE GATORS
San Francisco State enters Friday night's match-up at 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the CCAA, tied with Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills for third place. The Gators dropped both of last week's games, falling to Humboldt State (78-67) and No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona (66-46) on the road. Three players are averaging 10 or more points, including Calvin Otiono (13.1), Decensae White (12.1) and William Overton, Jr. (10.6). Otiono also leads the team in assists (40), steals (29) and three-point shooting percentage (51.4%), while White is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game.

A LOOK AT THE SEAWOLVES
Sonoma State brings a 6-8 overall record and a 4-6 CCAA mark into this week. The Seawolves, who host Cal State San Bernardino Friday night, are tied with UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay for seventh place in the league. SSU split its road games last week, losing at seventh-ranked Cal Poly Pomona (70-61) before downing Humboldt State (62-58). Patrick Scott leads the CCAA in scoring average (17.2) and three-pointers per game (2.6). Justin Herold is second in the league in field goal percentage (59.8%).

UNDER 90
Prior to Cal State San Bernardino scoring 90 on Nov. 24, no UCSD opponent had posted a point total that high since Cal State Monterey Bay won 97-93 in double overtime on Jan. 26, 2008 at RIMAC Arena. The last time an opponent put up 90-plus in regulation was on Jan. 4, 2007 when Humboldt State downed the Tritons 90-76 in Arcata.

WE'VE GOT SPIRIT, HOW 'BOUT YOU?
A reminder that Spirit Night will take place on Friday, Feb. 8 when the men and women both host Humboldt State at RIMAC Arena. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the women tipping off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30. The Spirit Night trophy will be presented following the men's game and fireworks will close out the night on RIMAC Field. Last year's Spirit Night drew a crowd of 3,642.

ALL BUT ONE
UCSD returns all but one of its starters from last season, including full-timers James McCannTyler McGrath and Justin Brue, along with part-timers MacKenzie McCullough and Ryan Peters. That group accounted for 61% of the team's scoring and 50% of its rebounds. The lone loss was big man Christian Hatch, who led the Tritons in scoring (12.5/game) and rebounding (7.3/game). The center was named to the All-CCAA Second Team.

COACH AND COACH
UCSD head coach Chris Carlson will be a weekly guest on XX Sports 1090's "Coach" Kentera Show. Carlson will join host John Kentera every Tuesday at approximately 8:30 p.m. You can listen online as well at http://bit.ly/TsuTZ6.
