SAN DIEGO - UC San Diego men’s soccer senior midfielder Andisheh Bagheri was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for his on-the-field success during the month of October.
UCSD on Oct. 27 clinched its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship berth since 2005 (and sixth in program history), and did so without a doubt with the help of Bagheri.
Bagheri has been a vital aspect of the 16th-ranked Tritons, leading them to a remarkable 6-1-1 record in October. The Davis native scored in six of those eight matches during the month, including the last four games in a row. Bagheri tallied seven goals in all, with four of them being game-winners.
A graduate student in biology who earned his degree in physiology and neuroscience last June, Bagheri has been a member of the Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team twice during his collegiate career at UCSD. He currently has a team-best 10 goals, and his six game-winners lead the entire CCAA.
San Diego’s Hall of Champions recognizes amateur, collegiate and professional athletes each and every month. The non-profit sports museum is located in Balboa Park.
The UCSD men’s soccer team continues its 2013 season this Friday, Nov. 8, competing in the CCAA Championship against No. 24 Chico State at 11 a.m. in Turlock.
