Triton Quartet Earns Daktronics All-Region Distinction
Release: Monday 11/25/2013

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Four standout UC San Diego men’s soccer players were named Monday to Daktronics All-West Region teams.

Alec Arsht, Andisheh Bagheri and Josh Cohen all made the first team, while a fourth senior, Gavin Lamming, earned a spot on the second team. Only UCSD had as many as three first-team selections, and shared the overall high of four honorees with Simon Fraser and Cal State L.A.

The quartet helped the Tritons to their most successful season since moving up from Division III to Division II for the 2000 campaign. Under the direction of sixth-year head coach Jon Pascale, UCSD went 14-3-5 overall, was ranked as high as No. 6 nationally, made its first postseason appearance since 2005 and earned its first NCAA Championship berth since 2003. The 17th-ranked Tritons were just eliminated via penalty-kick tiebreaker this past Friday afternoon in the tournament’s third round in Denver by 12th-ranked Simon Fraser.

The honor is a third straight for Arsht, who made the second team as a sophomore and along with Cohen, the first team as a junior. Arsht and Cohen then subsequently moved on to become second-team Daktronics All-Americans. Bagheri and Lamming are first-time Daktronics honorees.

Arsht, Bagheri and Cohen all advance to the Daktronics All-America ballot as regional first-teamers.

The award is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., and voted on by the region’s sports information personnel.
