LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 19 UC San Diego women's tennis team fell to Connecticut, 6-3, on Wednesday at the Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons captured one doubles victory and two wins on the singles ladder, but could not overcome the Division I Huskies.

With the loss, UCSD fell to 5-8 on the season.

Katie Mulloy and Laura Wilke secured UCSD's lone win on the doubles side, defeating their opponents, 8-5. Doubles teams Melissa Breisacher-Jacquelyn Davis and Tara Vanooteghem-Melinda Chu lost hard-fought battles, both 8-6, at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

At No. 1 singles, Breisacher handily beat Jennifer Learmonth, 6-1, 6-2. Further down the ladder, Samantha Yeung defeated UConn's Lucy Nutting by a margin of 6-1, 6-1.

Freshman Kellie Taylor made her debut for the Tritons Wednesday, narrowly falling to Abby McKeon at No. 5. Taylor forced three sets before losing, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3.

"The women competed hard today," said UCSD head coach Liz LaPlante. "We will make use of a little time off to rest up."

The Tritons will next compete at the West Florida Invitational, held March 30- April 1.
