Tritons Move to 6-0 With Pair of UCSD Invitational Wins

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 13 UC San Diego women's volleyball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a pair of wins at its own UCSD Invitational Friday at RIMAC Arena. The day began with a 3-1 victory over California Baptist and was capped with a sweep against Point Loma.

Scores against California Baptist went 25-17, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-22.

Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) and Sophie Rowe each recorded double-doubles for UCSD. Dahle led all players with 16 kills while adding a team-high 15 digs. Rowe picked up her double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Sara McCutchan had 13 kills and three blocks, while Caitlin Brenton, making her debut as a Triton, went for nine kills, three blocks and a pair of digs. Kameron Cooper hit .400 with eight kills, while setters Amber Hawthorne and Heidi Sierks had 28 and 21 assists, respectively.

CBU, which dropped to 2-4, got a double-double out of Kim McCalmont, who finished with 13 kills and 11 digs. Katie Rotondo had a match-high 19 digs and three service aces, while Malika O'Brien totaled six blocks.

UCSD hit .237 (62-25-156) and CBU swung at .215 (47-19-130). The Lancers out-blocked the Tritons, 11-6.

It was the first time this year that UCSD had lost a set.

In the sweep against crosstown rival Point Loma, scores were 25-17, 25-8 and 25-19.

Dahle proved to be extremely effective once again, posting her second double-double of the day with a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs.

McCutchan hit a blistering .688 from the middle by dropping a match-high 11 kills with no errors in 16 swings. She also had two service aces. Rowe also went errorless with six kills in 12 attempts.

Libero Brittany Lombardi amassed a match-best 14 digs.

The Sea Lions were led by Heather Leavitt's double-double as she had 10 kills and 13 digs.

Overall, UCSD hit .288 (43-11-111), while PLNU struggled, managing just an .047 (29-24-106) attack. The Tritons hit .600 in the second set, totaling 16 kills and just a single error in 25 attacks.

The Tritons complete tournament play Saturday as they take on No. 10 Fresno Pacific at 2:30 p.m. and Alaska Anchorage at 7:30 p.m. The matches will be covered by live stats.
