The UC San Diego women’s tennis team opens 2014 ranked fourth in the West and 17th nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) listings. The Tritons went 14-7 last year and concluded the season ranked 19th nationally. They finished the season with four back to back wins, followed by a loss to San Diego State.

The Tritons lost three players to graduation: Melissa Breisacher, Jacquelyn Davis and Sherise Lum. Breisacher played at the No. 1position in singles and doubles, finishing the season with a singles record of 3-17 and doubles mark of 12-9 with Kyra Scott as her partner. Davis played at the No. 5 and the No. 6 singles spot. She played all of her doubles contests at No. 2 with Paula Chou, earning a 15-6 record for the year. Lum made an appearance in singles at No.6 with a 1-1 record. Scott and Chou were both strong players for the Tritons last year and will be coming back this season both as sophomores. Scott finished the season with a mark of 18-2 in singles at the No. 2 position and tied with Tara Vanooteghem for most singles wins on the team. Chou played at the No. 3 singles spot , concluding the season with a 14-6 record overall and a 15-6 record in doubles at the No. 2 spot with Davis as her partner.

UCSD opened its 2013 fall season at the ITA West Region Championships in Los Angeles. Chou and Scott both advanced to quarterfinals in singles and doubles. Senior Vanooteghem also picked up a win in singles. Both of UCSD’s doubles teams posted at least one win.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps started the season off with representatives in both singles and doubles in the main draw finals of the USTA/ITZ Small College West Regional Championships. Freshman Katie Kousman made finals in singles, while Caroline Ward and Crystal Lim made finals in doubles. The Athenas then went on to play four matches in Hawaii. They started the four-match series with an 8-1 win against Chaminade followed by a loss to BYU-Hawaii (1-8). They then won against Whitman (6-3) and closed out the trip with a loss against Hawaii Pacific (1-8).

UC Davis kicked off their fall season in Berkeley at the Cal Nike Invitational with a vicotry in doubles of 8-4 against BYU. UC Davis then went on to compete at the Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational where their doubles team finished in second place. At the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships the Aggies had two consolation singles victories. They opened 2014 with a loss to No.1 Stanford (7-0), followed by a win against Pacific (4-3).
