Solid Doubles Play Leads Tritons to 7-2 Win vs. No. 10 Fresno Pacific

LA JOLLA, Calif.- The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 victory against 10th-ranked Fresno Pacific at Northview Courts Saturday afternoon.

UCSD upped its season mark to 6-4 while FPU fell to 2-3. 

The Tritons started off strong, sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Paula Chou and Kyra Scott outlasted Petra Jurova and Angelika Sobiecka , 9-8. The No. 2 tilt went to Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen, who downed Alison Carre and Laure-Anne Josso by a score of 8-5. Tara Vanooteghem and Laura Wilke took an 8-4 win against Matilda Ackered and Erin Carlson at No. 3.

In singles play, Chou was victorious at No. 2 and was followed by Nowamooz and Vanooteghem. Kellie Taylor took the No. 6 singles contest with a score of 6-1 and 6-2 against Megan Lee. 

The Sunbirds won the No. 1 and No. 5 singles matches in straight sets. 

The Tritons host Cal State L.A. on Monday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles are ranked 20th nationally and seventh in the West region. The teams last met in March of 2013 with UCSD taking a 6-3 win in La Jolla.
