Liz LaPlante enters her 37th year as head coach of the Triton women's tennis team in 2015-16.

During her 36 years on the La Jolla campus, LaPlante has amassed a .670 winning percentage with her 535-263 overall record. She has recorded winning seasons and posted double-digit win totals in all but five of her campaigns. Her teams have had 20 or more wins on five different occasions.

Over her first 21 seasons at UCSD, La Plante became the most successful coach in NCAA Division III women's tennis history. Her teams qualified for the D-III National Championships 19 times, winning four national titles and finishing second on five other occasions. The Tritons also placed third nationally three times while at the D-III level.

LaPlante was honored as the NCAA Division III Coach of the Decade in 1991. She was also the 2000 ITA Division III Coach of the Year.

Since LaPlante took over the program in 1980, 29 Tritons have earned All-America honors.

During the 2014-15 season, the Tritons went 12-13 overall and were ranked as high as 15th in the country. Kyra Scott climbed to a No. 8 national ranking in singles play, while she and doubles partner Britta Mosser were 14th. UCSD posted wins against NCAA Division I opponents Seton Hall and Villanova.

LaPlante earned her 500th career victory as head coach of the Tritons in the season finale against Hawaii Hilo on April 22, 2012, when UCSD cruised to a 5-0 win.

In 2010, despite UCSD's CCAA win streak being snapped at an amazing 65 victories with a loss to Cal Poly Pomona, the Tritons captured their seventh-straight league title. UCSD finished the season with a No. 15 national ranking and earned the third seed in the West Region, advancing to the program's 30th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

In 2009, for the sixth-straight season, LaPlante was recognized as the CCAA Coach of the Year. She was also tabbed the ITA West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Tritons to their sixth-straight undefeated CCAA championship season.

In 2005, the Tritons won the NCAA Division II West Regional at home and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2002. La Plante recorded her 400th career victory during the season.

2004 marked a season of firsts for the Tritons at the Division II level as they went a perfect 8-0 in CCAA play and won their first league championship.

UCSD moved to the NCAA Division II level for the 2000-01 season.

LaPlante has served as a member of the Western Region Ranking Committee since 1981, and has also been on the ITA National Ranking Committee and the NCAA National Subcommittee, which governs the national championships for men's and women's tennis.

LaPlante graduated from San Diego State University in 1979 and played varsity tennis for three years as an undergraduate. Prior to that, she was one of the top junior players in San Diego County. LaPlante currently plays club tennis.
