Release: Wednesday 10/06/2010

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's volleyball team will look to extend its two-match home winning streak this weekend by welcoming No. 4 Cal State San Bernadino and Cal Poly Pomona to the friendly confines of RIMAC Arena.

The Tritons will host the Coyotes on Friday before returning to the court on Saturday for a contest against the Broncos. Both matches are set for 7:00 p.m.

UCSD snapped a five-match losing skid last weekend with wins over Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Tritons dropped the opening set against the Golden Eagles on Oct. 2, but recovered for a 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-21 victory. The next night UCSD made quick work of CSUDH, winning in straight sets, 26-24, 25-20, and 25-20. The Tritons sit in seventh place in the CCAA standings with an overall record of 7-6 and a 4-5 record in conference play.

Junior outside hitter Katie Condon recorded a double-double in each match, finishing with 12 kills and 19 digs against the Golden Eagles before recording another 12 kills and 10 digs the following night against the Toros. She averaged 3.42 kills and 4.14 digs per set for the weekend and currently leads the team in kills (134) and kills per set (2.68) through 13 matches.

Condon wasn't the only Triton to secure a pair of double-doubles on the weekend. Junior setter Thalia McCann dished out 44 assists to go along with 16 digs against CSULA before tallying a 30-assist, 11-dig night against CSUDH. She currently ranks second in the CCAA with a 10.25 assist per set average. As a team, UCSD leads the CCAA averaging 12.54 assists per set, while ranking second in both digs and kills at 18.48 and 13.35, respectively.

Senior middle blocker Kaitlin Potter hit .531 over the weekend, recording 18 kills on 32 total attacks with only one error to show for it. Potter is currently second in the CCAA with a .364 total hitting percentage on the year.

UCSD will have its work cut out for itself against CSUSB, a squad that is coming in with a 10-match winning streak- a span in which the Coyotes have only dropped a single set. CSUSB is in first place in the CCAA (12-1 overall, 9-0 CCAA) and currently leads the conference in total hitting percentage (.319), kills per set (13.61 per set), and opponent hitting percentage (.121).

Reigning CCAA Player of the Week Jane Chafeh paces the Coyotes, leading CSUSB in kills per set (4.05) and points per set (4.68). In wins against Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, and Cal Poly Pomona last week, Chafeh totaled 38 kills, 28 digs, four assists, two service aces and two block assists while posting a .304 hitting percentage. She also had two double-doubles (kills-digs). UCSD is 33-16 all-time against CSUSB and went 1-1 against the Coyotes in 2009.

After Friday's face-off with Cal State San Bernadino, Cal Poly Pomona will pay a visit to RIMAC Arena on Saturday. The Broncos have an overall record of 5-9 and a 3-6 mark in the CCAA after losing to Cal State Stanislaus (3-1) and beating Chico State (3-2) last weekend.

Junior outside hitter Kristin McNeese leads the Broncos with 137 kills on 389 total attacks for the year, putting her average at 2.54 kills per set. Freshman setter Katie Collin leads her team with 479 assists and a 9.39 assist per set average, sixth best in the CCAA.

UCSD is 22-12 all-time against CPP. The Tritons swept the Broncos, 3-0, in both meetings in 2009.
