LA JOLLA, Calif. - Coming off a 3-1 homestand the last two weeks, the UC San Diego women's volleyball team will now hit the road, looking to gain ground in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.

UCSD will take on Sonoma State in Rohnert Park on Friday, before traveling to Arcata for a matchup with Humboldt State on Saturday. Both contests are slated to start at 7:00 p.m.

After dropping five straight from September 15-25, the Tritons have bounced back nicely, winning three of their last four to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA heading into this weekend's Northern California swing. UCSD's recent homestand included victories over No. 23 Cal State (3-1), Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0) and Cal Poly Pomona (3-1), with the only loss coming at the hands of league-leading and fourth-ranked Cal State San Bernardino in four sets.

Head coach Ricci Luyties' squad is currently in eighth place in the league standings, one game behind Cal State L.A. and Cal State Stanislaus, which both hold a league mark of 6-5. UCSD is just two games shy of Cal State East Bay, Sonoma State and San Francisco State, who are all tied for third place at 7-4.

Junior outside hitter Katie Condon has been a beast of late, averaging a team-high 3.60 kills to go with 3.60 digs per set over the past four matches. The Pasadena, Calif. native also led the Tritons with 11 service aces during that span, three of which came in Saturday's victory over Pomona.

Sophomore middle blocker Julia Freidenberg has also been playing well lately, averaging 2.20 kills and 0.40 blocks per set the last two weeks. She also hit at a respectable .342 clip in those contests, recording 33 kills on 79 total attacks, with just six errors.

UCSD welcomed back starters Roxanne Brunsting and Hillary Williamson during the homestand after both missed time with injuries recently. Brunsting, who spent some time setting against San Bernardino and Pomona, averaged 2.12 kills, 4.75 assists and 2.50 digs last weekend, while Williamson contributed 2.25 kills and 3.00 digs per set.

The Tritons are now 8-2 when both Brunsting and Williamson are in the lineup this season.

UCSD will be looking for the season sweep of both Sonoma and Humboldt after defeating each squad back earlier this year. Kaitlin Potter finished with nine kills on .474 hitting and Brunsting tallied seven kills and 15 digs to lead the Tritons to a straight set victory over the Seawolves on September 11 at RIMAC Arena. Allyson Sather sent down a match-high 12 kills and Keala Peterson had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs in a losing effort for Sonoma.

The Tritons recorded a 3-0 win over Humboldt State the previous night, with Williamson tallying a match-high 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the way. Condon added nine kills, eight digs and four assists, while Potter finished with eight kills on .583 hitting. Five different players totaled seven kills for the Lumberjacks.

UCSD is 21-5 all-time against Sonoma and holds a perfect 12-0 mark in the head-to-head series with Humboldt State.
