UC San Diego holds a commanding 22-5 lead in the all-time series vs. CCAA opponent Sonoma State. The series dates back to 1983, but the two squads have never met in the postseason. This year, the Tritons swept the Seawolves at home in Sept. and completed the regular season series with a 3-2 victory on the road in Oct. UCSD enters the regional having won 11 of its last 12 matches. The streak began on Oct. 9 with a 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona at home and ended on Nov. 13 when the Tritons were swept at Cal State San Bernardino.

Sonoma State in the NCAA Tournament
Sonoma State is making its fourth appearance (third straight) in the NCAA Tournament and will be looking for its first ever postseason win. The Seawolves first dabbled in postseason play in 1993. Known as the Cossacks back then, SSU fell to Portland State, 3-1, in the opening round. Sonoma State didn't appear in the tournament again until 2008 when it was swept by Chico State in the first round at San Bernardino. In 2009, again at San Bernardino, Cal State L.A. overcame a 2-1 deficit to beat the Seawolves 3-2 in the first round.

Sonoma State enters the regional with a 17-9 overall record and finished fourth in the CCAA standings at 14-8. The Seawolves are ranked fifth in the West Region, just behind UC San Diego. Taylor Krenwinkel is second in the CCAA with 4.85 digs per set. Allyson Sather is third in kills with 3.52 per set and Hayley Ross ranks third in service aces with .41 per set. As a team, the Seawolves are second in the league in blocks (2.00/set) and third in both hitting (.224) and digs (15.28/set).
