LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's volleyball team creeped back into the AVCA Division II Coaches Top-25 Poll, coming in at 25th in the final poll of the 2010 season.
The Tritons finished the season with a 19-9 overall record and a 15-7 mark in the CCAA, equaling Cal State East Bay for second place in the league. UCSD qualified for the NCAA West Regionals at CSU San Bernardino, where it swept Sonoma State in the first round and lost to the host Coyotes, 3-0, in the semifinals. San Bernardino went on to win the region and advance to the national quarterfinals.
Several Tritons picked up postseason awards for their performances in 2010. Junior outside hitter/setter Roxanne Brunsting (Chula Vista) was the most decorated as she was named an Honorable Mention All-American by both the AVCA and Daktronics. She was also tabbed AVCA All-West Region, a Daktronics West Region All-Star First Team member and an All-CCAA First Team pick.
Junior outside Katie Condon (Pasadena) and sophomore middle Julia Freidenberg (Seattle, Wash.) were both named Daktronics West Region Volleyball All-Star Second Team members.
The three Tritons were also All-CCAA First Team selections.
UC San Diego was ranked eighth in the AVCA's preseason poll. The next two polls found the Tritons in 11th before they dropped to 21st in the Sept. 20 poll. UCSD was absent from the next eight polls before jumping back in the final list at 25th.
