National Preseason Poll
The Tritons head into the season ranked
24th nationally according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason
Poll, one spot better than where they finished the 2010 season. Reigning national champion
Concordia-St. Paul is ranked No. 1 and garnered all 32 first place votes, while Central
Missouri is No. 2 and the CCAA's Cal State San Bernardino is ranked third. Seattle Pacific is

CCAA Coaches Pick UCSD to Finish
Second in the League
The annual California Collegiate Athletic
Conference (CCAA) Preseason Coaches Poll has UCSD finishing second in the league this
season. Reigning champion Cal State San Bernardino is chosen to repeat and Sonoma State
rounds out the top three.
UCSD Volleyball Honored by AVCA
for Academic Excellence
The American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA) recently announced that the UCSD women's volleyball program earned an
AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 season. The award, which was initiated
following the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams
that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team
grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. Since the
award's inception, the number of honorees has grown 674%. A total of 481 squads garnered
the award this year, 57 of those coming from the NCAA Division II ranks.
Katie Glomb Joins Staff as
Assistant Coach
Former CCAA player Katie Glomb was named an
assistant coach for the UCSD women's volleyball team in July of 2011.
Prior to coming to La Jolla, Glomb played two seasons for Cal State East Bay in Hayward.
As a senior in 2010, she helped the Pioneers to a 20-7 overall record as a libero/defensive
specialist. East Bay finished tied for second in the CCAA with UCSD at 15-7. Playing in all 28
matches, Glomb was second on the team with 28 service aces. As a junior in 2009, she
posted 142 digs in 76 sets played and averaged 20 digs over her last four matches.
In 2007, Glomb was a starting outside hitter and team captain for Santa Monica College.
She began her collegiate playing career in 2005 as a libero at NCAA Division I Loyola
Marymount. Glomb played in 79 sets as the Lions went 19-11 overall and advanced to the
NCAA Tournament.
A native of San Jose, Glomb played four seasons at Archbishop Mitty High School, where
the Monarchs won back-to-back state titles in 2003 and 2004. She was a Mercury News All-
Central Coast selection and named one of Prep Volleyball's 2004 "Defensive Dandies,"
placing her among the nation's top-25 defensive specialists.
On the club scene, Glomb played for Golden Bear, City Beach and Vision. She won a gold
medal with City Beach 15 Black at the 2001 Junior Olympics and a bronze medal with City
Beach 14 Black in 2000.
Glomb has also spent time coaching at the club level. In 2011, Payes Performance 14
Black finished in the top-15 at Junior Nationals in Atlanta. Glomb also coached the South
Valley 15s in 2008.
Glomb graduated from Cal State East Bay in 2011 with a degree in liberal studies.
