Tritons Crack Top-10 in National Poll
UCSD broke into the top-10 at No. 10 in this week's AVCA national poll. The Tritons share the spot with Hillsdale College in Michigan. It's the third straight week that UCSD has improved its standing in the poll. The top-three remained the same this week with Concordia-St. Paul in first, Tampa in second and the CCAA's Cal State San Bernardino in third. No other CCAA schools are in the top-25.
Eight Straight with Pair of League Wins on the Road
UCSD moved to 8-0 with wins at Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0) and at Cal State L.A. (3-1) last week. Against Cal State L.A., Hillary Williamson matched a career-high for the second time this season with 20 kills. She recorded her fourth double-double of the year by adding 19 digs. Also in that match, Roxanne Brunsting finished just a kill short of a triple-double for the second time, collecting nine kills, 28 assists and 11 digs. At Dominguez Hills, Williamson led all players with 13 kills.
Eight is Not Enough
At 8-0, streaky UCSD is on the verge of tying and perhaps eclipsing its best start to a season in the history of the program. The Tritons have gone 9-0 to start a campaign three times - 2009 and 2004 in NCAA Division II play and 1990 while a member of NCAA Division III. Since 1980, no Triton squad has won 10 straight to start a season.
