LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego is pleased to announce that Katie Condon has been named the Molten/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by league representative Al Barba.
Condon was instrumental in leading the No. 17 Tritons to a pair of CCAA victories on the road last week. The senior outside hitter totaled 31 kills, 32 digs, two aces and four blocks while recording a .297 (31-4-91) attack percentage over the span.
In a come-from-behind, five-set victory at Cal State Stanislaus, Condon had match-highs with 17 kills, 22 digs and 21 points. She added two aces and four blocks and hit .357 (17-2-42). Down two sets to none, Condon had a kill and then served six straight points to give UCSD a 24-10 lead in the crucial third set that completely turned the match around. Leading 12-9 in the fifth and deciding set, she had a kill for UCSD's 13th point and followed that by serving out the last two points of the match.
The night before, Condon finished with a match-high 14 kills and added 10 digs in a four-set win at Chico State, a team that had defeated UCSD earlier in the season.
With the two consecutive double-doubles, the Pasadena native now has seven on the season.
Condon is the first Triton to win the league's weekly award this season.
With five matches remaining in the regular season, UCSD (17-4, 13-4) sits in third place in the CCAA, four matches behind undefeated Cal State San Bernardino and two and a half behind second place Sonoma State. The Tritons will have a chance to close that gap Friday as the Seawolves visit RIMAC Arena for a 7 p.m. match. UCSD students are admitted free with a valid ID.
