LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego earned the split of a doubleheader Saturday against Cal State Stanislaus at Triton Ballpark, producing a 3-0 shutout in the shortened nightcap behind a stellar start from sophomore Dan Kolodin to answer a come-from-behind Warrior victory, 4-3, in 10 innings in the first game.

With Saturday's results, the 21st-ranked Tritons moved their record to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal State Stanislaus is now 4-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.

UCSD's win in the seven-inning second game gave it a 2-1 lead in the four-game weekend set. The Tritons will go for a third successive series victory to begin the 2013 campaign in the 11 a.m. finale with the Warriors at Triton Ballpark. Sophomore left-hander Trevor Scott (1-1, 7.88 ERA) is expected to be opposed by senior right-hander Rafael Vasquez (0-1, 1.15 ERA).

Game 1
The Tritons took a 2-0 lead in the first game in the second inning, but Cal State Stanislaus chipped away with single scores in the fifth and eighth before striking for two more runs in the 10th and hanging on in the bottom half.

Centerfielder Ross Gonsalves provided the two big hits for the visitors, pushing a single through the right side on a 3-2 pitch to plate the tying run in the eighth, and then coming up with a two-run single, also with two strikes at 2-2, to left center in the decisive 10th.

Nick La Face himself singled to left center to knock in Danny Susdorf with two gone in the bottom half, but Danny Molieri (1-1) got Richard Seigel to fly out as the potential game-winning run to seal the Warrior victory.

UCSD had opened the scoring in the second as Seigel worked the count full and doubled to right to lead off and advanced to third on a balk. Garrett Tuck lifted a simple fly ball to center that went down as a sacrifice fly, but was dropped by Gonsalves, enabling Tuck to land safely at second base. The junior third baseman moved to third on a bunt single by Spencer Frazier and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman leftfielder Gradeigh Sanchez.

Junior left-hander Justin Rahn, the Tritons' every-day leftfielder, made his first collegiate pitching start, going a season-best 4.1 innings with a career-high two strikeouts, allowing one run on five hits and no walks. David Hart (0-1) took the loss after fellow junior right-hander Blake Fassler had tossed 2.2 scoreless frames.

Game 2
Kolodin (1-0) tossed a career-high 6.0 innings and struck out a career-high nine opposing batters in earning the first decision and first win of his college career in Saturday's second game, scheduled for seven innings per conference protocol. Kolodin's ninth punch-out come on exactly his 100th pitch of the afternoon, as he caught Warrior first basemen Trent Frisbie staring at a 2-2 offering.

Kolodin scattered three singles around three walks. Scott Zeman tossed a clean ninth with a strikeout for his second save of the year.

Garrett Tuck and Troy Cruz produced back-to-back one-out singles in the third, the latter a perfectly-executed hit-and-run through the right side that enabled Tuck to easily cruise over to third. Susdorf followed with a fielder's choice groundout to shortstop to bring home Tuck with the game's first run.

An inning later, the Triton lead was 2-0 as Richard Seigel lashed the first pitch of the frame down the right field line for a double, hustled over to third on a wild pitch by Warrior starter Byron Lemon, and came home moments later on a balk.

For insurance, Seigel again took Lemon's very first offering of the home sixth and lifted it over the right field wall for his team-leading third home run of 2013.

Lemon (1-1) was pinned with the loss despite the complete-game effort, allowing the three runs on five hits and four walks, with three strikeouts.

Triton Notes: UCSD is 34-23 all-time against Cal State Stanislaus ... The Tritons' run of 12 straight wins over the Warriors in La Jolla dating back to April 27, 2007, was snapped with Saturday's 4-3 defeat ... The result in the nightcap marked UCSD's second shutout in three games, both in this series against Stanislaus ... Garrett Tuck has started 82 consecutive games and made 89 straight appearances ... Nick La Face drew his 67th consecutive start in the nightcap ... Dan Kolodin's start was just the third of his college career ... Danny Susdorf's leadoff triple in game one extended his career-best hit streak to 26 games dating back to last season, but that streak was snapped in the second contest when he finished 0-for-2 ... With four more chances on the afternoon, two in each game, Susdorf's defensive streak without an error extended to his last 77 games (185 chances) dating back to April 29, 2011 ... Susdorf's triple in the first game was his first of 2013 and increased his school-record career total to 15.
