Four Tritons Named to All-CCAA Teams

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Four UC San Diego women's volleyball players have been named to All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) teams as the annual selections were announced Wednesday by the league.

Caitlin Brenton, Danielle Dahle and Heidi Sierks earned All-CCAA First Team honors, while Sara McCutchan was named to the conference's second team.

Brenton is in her first season at UCSD after transferring from Columbia University. The junior opposite hitter is second on the team in kills/set, hitting percentage, aces, blocks, blocks/set and points/set. Among CCAA players, Brenton is fourth in blocks/set and seventh in blocks. She has totaled 10 or more points in 21 of 26 matches and 15 or more points 11 times. The San Jose native has recorded a double-double in four of her last six matches. Brenton's 33.0 points and 27 kills against Cal Poly Pomona (11/9) are team season-highs. She is an economics major at Revelle College.

Dahle, a sophomore outside hitter, leads the Tritons in kills, kills/set, points, points/set, attack attempts and receptions. In the conference, she ranks eighth in kills and ninth in points. Dahle has posted 15 double-doubles and has totaled 10 or more kills in 23 of 30 matches and 15 or more kills 12 times. She has double-digit point totals in 26 of 30 matches with 15 or more points 13 times. Dahle's 1,115 attack attempts rank third on UCSD's single season list. The La Mesa native won a slew of awards in 2012, including AVCA West Region Freshman of Year, Daktronics All-West Second Team, AVCA All-West Honorable Mention and All-CCAA First Team accolades. She majors in cognitive science at Marshall College.

It is the first career postseason honor for Sierks. In CCAA matches, the sophomore setter ranks first in assists and assists/set. Overall in the league, she is third in assists and fourth in assists/set and nationally she ranks 53rd in assists/set. Sierks is third on the team in digs and digs/set and has recorded a team-high 20 double-doubles. One of just two Tritons to play in all 116 sets this season, she has amassed 40 or more assists 18 times and 50 or more helpers on eight occasions. Sierks established a career-high with 70 assists at Cal State Monterey Bay (11/15) and her 1,180 assists is seventh on UCSD's single season list. The Lake Bluff, Ill., native is undeclared at Marshall College.

A junior middle blocker, McCutchan leads UCSD, ranks fourth in the CCAA and is 19th in the country in hitting percentage. She is second on the team in points and third in kills, blocks, blocks/set and points/set. McCutchan broke league and school records and tied the NCAA Division II record with a 1.000 (11-0-11) hitting percentage against Humboldt State (11/8). She has totaled 10 or more points in 23 of 30 matches. This season, McCutchan has been selected as a CCAA Player of the Week (11/12), the MVP of the UCSD Invitational and a member of the Coyote Classic All-Tournament Team. In 2012, she earned Daktronics All-West Second Team, AVCA All-West Honorable Mention, All-CCAA Second Team and CCAA All-Academic honors. The Irvine native is a cognitive science major at Roosevelt College.

UC San Diego, Cal State San Bernardino and Sonoma State all had a conference-high four players earn All-CCAA accolades. Only UCSD and SSU had three players named to the first team.

Sonoma State outside hitter Caylie Seitz was tabbed the CCAA Most Valuable Player, Chico State setter Torey Thompson was named the league's Freshman of the Year and middle blocker Bethanee Boggs of Cal State L.A. was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. Cal State San Bernardino's Kim Cherniss and Sonoma State's Bear Grassl were named CCAA Co-Coaches of the Year.

UCSD (25-5), ranked 12th nationally, earned a berth in the NCAA postseason for the eighth consecutive year. As the third seed in the West, the Tritons will take on sixth-seeded Dixie State (17-9) in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Regional on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 12 p.m. The regional is being hosted by top-seeded Cal State San Bernardino, Dec. 5-7 at The Den.
