ANAHEIM, Calif. - The eighth-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team wrapped up play at the Disney Tip-Off West Coast Classic Sunday night, falling 61-58 against Simon Fraser at the Anaheim Convention Center.

A layup by UCSD's Daisy Feder tied the score at 54-54 with 2:21 left in the game, but on Simon Fraser's next possession, Marie-Line Petit drilled a three-pointer to put the Clan up for good. The Tritons got back within one point twice. A layup by Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe with seven ticks left gave SFU a three-point lead and Feder's long-distance attempt at the buzzer was no good.

UCSD dropped to 0-3 on the young season, while SFU remained perfect at 3-0. The Tritons were edged in two of three games in Anaheim, losing by just two points (64-62) against No. 13 Grand Canyon Saturday night.

"I think that the whole tournament was a learning process," said UCSD head coach Heidi VanDerveer. "We gave ourselves a chance in all three games, specifically the last two. It came down to a possession or two where we have to finish."

Emily Osga turned in a solid performance for UCSD, recording 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting while adding six rebounds. Both totals were team-highs. She also contributed with two assists and a steal in 35 minutes of play.

Feder also had another strong outing, finishing with 14 points, six boards and three assists. The senior guard, who tossed in a career-high 28 points Saturday against Grand Canyon, averaged 20.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over the three tourney games.

Raincock-Ekunwe posted a pair of game-highs with 22 points and nine rebounds for the Clan. She was one of three players to register double-digits as Erin Chambers had 15 points and Petit had 10. Petit was 3-for-3 on the night, all three-point baskets.

The Tritons, who had a 25-22 advantage at halftime, led in several statistical categories, including field goal percentage (45.1%-41.7%), free throw percentage (77.8%-73.7%) and rebounds (33-27). SFU made 50% of its three-pointers (7-14), while UCSD had 16 turnovers to the Clan's 13.

The game featured 12 tie scores and 10 lead changes. Neither squad led by more than five points at any point.

UCSD continues early season tournament play at the West Region Crossover, hosted by Western Washington, Nov. 16-17 in Bellingham, Wash. The Tritons play against Seattle Pacific as well as the host Vikings.
