LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the fourth consecutive year, the UC San Diego men's volleyball team paired with Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County to offer a free clinic at RIMAC Arena.
The clinic, which was attended by "Bigs" and "Littles" from Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, included instruction and demonstration of basic volleyball skills by current players and coaches of the UCSD volleyball team. The participants also competed against each other with Tritons on both sides of the net.
"It is hard to say who has more fun at these clinics, the Bigs and Littles participating or our players," said UCSD head coach Kevin Ring. "My players do a tremendous job of providing instruction and encouragement. When the clinic is ending, the Bigs and Littles are not ready to leave yet."
The clinic was part of Big Brothers Big Sisters' Sports Bigs program, which utilizes athletics to improve the lives of children by creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships with proven results.
"We appreciate the UCSD men's volleyball team for exposing our kids to a new sport and helping them develop confidence as they work and learn with their mentors," said Melissa Serrano, a Match Support Specialist with the Sports Bigs program. "Most of the attendees have never played volleyball and Coach Ring and the team do such an amazing job with our Bigs and Littles."
