LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego volleyball players Carl Eberts and Chase Frishman have been named All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Honorable Mention. The announcement was made Thursday by the league.

Eberts led UCSD in total kills (335), service aces (20) and points (392.5). The junior outside hitter also finished second in digs (139) and third in blocks (65). He ranks 14th among all MPSF players in both kills and points. One of just two Tritons to start all 28 of the team's matches, he had 10 or more kills 17 times, including in eight of his last nine contests. He led UCSD in points in 17 matches and in kills 16 times. Eberts matched a career-high with 22 kills against No. 3 BYU in February.

"Carl was strong in all facets of the game - serving, passing, defense, attacking and blocking," said UCSD head coach Kevin Ring. "He set the tone for this team and the strength of our balanced offense came from his play."

On the defensive side, Frishman led the Tritons with 210 digs. The junior libero averaged 2.28 scoops per set, which ranks him third in the MPSF. Frishman recorded 10 or more digs eight times and had double digit totals in five of his final seven outings. He led UCSD in digs in 18 matches and set a new career-high with 19 digs in an upset win over No. 3 UCLA in late March.

"Chase had a great run, especially in the last third of the season, where I believe he was playing as well as any libero in our conference," said Ring.  "He was a steady passer night in and night out and had a number of tremendous defensive matches."

USC swept the league's major awards as outside hitter Tony Ciarelli was named the MPSF Player of the Year and setter Micah Christenson was tabbed the Freshman of the Year.

UCSD, ranked 12th in the nation, finished its season with a 9-19 overall record and a 6-16 mark in the ultra-competitive MPSF. The Tritons placed ninth, just one spot out of qualifying for the league tournament. For the first time since 1990, the team won five consecutive matches and posted upset victories against Cal State Northridge, Hawaii, Long Beach State, UCLA and UC Santa Barbara.
